My entry for Aivomata 's contest
I meant to get this done sooner, but other things and art block kept me :(

I had been planning to do a second as well, but sadly there isn't enough time to get it finished.

It's fairly sketchy, but I like it very much.
This one is just the flatcolor.. the shaded is here-
shaded by SirCrocelland the base, blank by SirCrocell

I have to say, for not being one to draw this sort of thing, I'm extremely happy with the result.

Anyways, meet Krähe (Crow)
Krähe has.. never been one to think things completely through.
This time, though, it seems as if he has learned a bit of a lesson.

He had been wandering through a burnt forest, a rumored home of a ferocious fire drake. It wasn't something he believed, so he decided to go chest it out himself.
Seeing as he was so.. stuck-up at the time, he traveled with only a small blade as protection. After several days of travel and growing boredom, Krähe stumbled upon the lair of the beast. Foolishly, he peaked his head in, then slowly made his way back deep into the cave. Eventually, he stumbled across the treasure of the beast, but not the beast itself. Not having much interest in anything but a small dagger and a couple soft black metal hunks, he grabbed the items and left.
Reaching the edge of the lair, he walked back out into a rather open space, only to be greeted by the fire drake. It was a massive beast, many times bigger than he. Clutching his blade he fought it, eventually managing to fatally wound it after several tries. It was all a rush for him-- he hadn't noticed when it happened, but now that the battle was over, he felt it. The stinging pain on his face, and on several parts of his body. He too had been wounded, and his mask cracked badly with a chunk missing, and wounds on his chest, arms, legs, and back, all of which would end up fading over time. Not that it seemed that way at the moment, though.
After wrapping his wounds with scraps of cloth found in the dragons lair, he got to work on a new mask. Wanting to keep things simple, he carved part of the fire drake's skull to use as his mask, and took off several horns from the face and neck of the beast. Going back into the lair, he grabbed the sharpest item he could find and set to work on carving two small pendants from the soft black metal he had found. Using threads from clothes he found, he made several black cords to hold the pendants onto the horns of the mask, and connecting  the horns. Then, came the fun part. Seeing as he was lacking in things to paint with, he ended up using blood from the dead drake to create some simple designs on the mask.
After he was finished this, he rested for several days, waiting for his wounds to heal before setting off back home. Of course, he had to take a trophy from the kill to prove he had, so he brought one of the large legs of the beast, dragging it along with him. Surely, those back home would find a use for the materials....
(end)

SO. Writing part proved a little tricky, but I think that'll do.
I can picture it in my head-- looks like reading Beowulf in Lit12 has influenced the writing :B
